General Information[]
The KV-1 is a Tier V Soviet Heavy Tank. It is slow and cumbersome, but heavily armed and strongly armored, even the side and rear can reliably block a few IV tanks, like the Pz. IV D's stock gun.
Strategy[]
Pros[]
- Armor that frequently bounces Tier IV and V shells frontally and if angled
- Top gun does 200 alpha damage, taking away one third of some tanks' HP
- Average speed for a heavy tank
- Derp gun does 450 alpha damage if the HE penetrates
- Turret can bounce some shots from Tier IV, V, and sometimes even VI.
Cons[]
- Bad traverse speed
- 10 second reload on the top gun without adding the Gun Rammer
- Below average turret traverse speed
- Derp gun only uses HEAT apart from HE
- Derp gun has a 20 second reload
- Derp gun only has 30mm of HE penetration
- Derp gun makes the KV-1 very expensive to use
- Stock engine and track are really bad
Strategy[]
As the KV-1[]
The 85mm gun is the only way to go for the KV-1. The 122mm gun's alpha may seem lovely at 400+ at Tier V, but unlike on WoTB's parent game World of Tanks, the 122mm gun's HE shells only have 30mm of penetration, with a reload time of around 20 seconds. This atrocious penetration only occasionally works against enemy Tier IV tanks (like the Alecto) and the terribly long reload time means you are most likely dead before you can fire your next shot. There is no AP shell to penetrate spaced armor either. To remain competitive you must buy a lot of HEAT shells but that is very expensive and inefficient, only for you to do a tad bit more than an AP shell of the 85mm.

History[]
After the failure of the multi-turreted T-35 heavy tank, new designs were called for, of which three designs were considered. These included the KV, named after a Soviet politician Kliment Voroshilov, the SMK and the T-100. These three prototypes were sent to the Winter War, where the KV outperformed the other two tanks. Hence, the KV tank commenced production. Later, when other variants appeared, the KV became the KV-1.
The KV tank was impervious to all early German weapons, especially the 3.7cm AT guns and short 7.5cm howitzers found on the Panzer IIIs and Panzer IVs respectively (which were the main German battle tanks at that point), with its only weakness being the feared German 88mm AA gun. As time went on however, the Germans developed weapons to take out the KV tank, and the more expensive KV tanks were dropped from production to produce more T-34/76 tanks.
The KV tank series eventually led to the creation of the IS tank series.
