The Pz. IV S. is a premium Tier VI German medium tank.

Description[]

The Pz. IV S. is notably different in appearance to previous Pz. IV models in-game due to its taller Schmalturm (German: "narrow turret") turret.

Pros[]

  • Spaced armor along the sides gives excellent protection from HE, HEAT, and HESH shells.
  • The cupola is well armored, tanks that cannot penetrate its frontal turret armor will have a hard time cupola sniping a hull down Pz. IV S.
  • Best damage per minute for all Tier VI medium tanks.
  • Above average penetration.
  • Great reload time, base aim time, and dispersion.
  • Decent gun depression and elevation angles.

Cons[]

  • Large turret size, an easy target if the sides and rear are exposed.
  • Poor effective power/weight ratio and traverse speed on all terrains.
  • Poor speed.
  • Poor turret traverse speed.

History[]

In early 1944, an attempt was made to fit the Schmalturm turret, which was developed for the Panther Ausf. F, onto the Pz.Kpfw. IV Ausf. J. The project never made it off the drawing board, with designers scrapping the project when they realized the Pz. IV hull and suspension would have been overloaded by the turret's weight.

Trivia[]

  • The Pz. IV S.'s legendary camouflage, Pz.Kpfw. IV (-o-), is a reference to the TIE Fighter from Star Wars. (-o-) is an emote for a TIE Fighter, more specifically the TIE Advanced X1, which is used by Darth Vader in A New Hope.
    • Even without the legendary camo, the spaced armor on the sides of the Pz. IV S. bear a passing resemblance to the solar panel wings of the TIE Fighter.
